Molly Bires Week 10

This week I experimented with a few different  research tools. I was loyal to Google Scholar throughout undergrad because it also lead me to atleast one useful article. I also liked that I could link it with my school's library and online databases so I could see what I could get for free. I like using Wikipedia as well but to find the sources in the wiki article and following those. Wikipedia is imbedded with great sources.

Week6

Kids Spell https://kidsspell.com/spelling-games/spellify-500/ I really like this tool to teach spelling because it allows the teacher/parent/student to come up with their own list of words to spell. There are also preset words and leveling is available as well. I think this would be a good way for kids to practice at home. KWL Worksheets http://www.teach-nology.com/worksheets/misc/winter/kwl/ I love using KWL worksheets with my students because they allow students to reflect on their own learning. They can see the progression of their own knowledge which is a great way to involve students in the learning process. SMS Generator http://www.classtools.net/SMS/ This is definitely an activity that would be fun for students. It would be a good tool to practice informal English. You could give them scenarios like you need to ask your sister to borrow her dress, or mom needs you to get something from the store. Publishing https://www.lulujr.com/ I love doing this with students...

Week 4

This week I read an article on TeachThought called "The Elements of a Digital Classroom". It is partially about what makes a classroom a classroom, and if anything given the right tools and intent can be considered a classroom. I think this is interesting to think about because that thought process would open a lot of doors for students to work and learn in a more free environment. Maybe kids could learn English is a more broad variety of ways. Another point from the article that I found interesting is how a Digital classroom has to the power to be constantly changing and evolving. I am not sure if this would help students stay engaged and interested in the classroom or if it will cause a distraction to them. I like the idea of having students create their own pictures to create a linguistic landscape. Any type of hands-on activity usually helps students connect and remember the material better.

Technology is Essential

I read an interesting article on TeachThought about how teaching technology is now just a crucial as teaching reading or writing. Just like English, being able to use technology is an essential skill in today's job market and becomes more important everyday, especially in High-Tech Israel. So it makes me think how important it is for English teachers to integrate technology into their classrooms. Kids loving using technology to begin with and it could also motivate them in English class.

Welcome to My Blog!

Hi and welcome to my blog! My name is Molly Bires. I was born and raised in Chicago, IL. I studied Elementary Education in college, and have been in the classroom for the past four years. I always dreaded technology in the classroom workshops. So hopefully, I will have a better experience this go around. I hope I will gain valuable insights on how to better integrate technology into the classroom for my students to have a more 21st century experience.
