Week6

Kids Spell
https://kidsspell.com/spelling-games/spellify-500/
I really like this tool to teach spelling because it allows the teacher/parent/student to come up with their own list of words to spell. There are also preset words and leveling is available as well. I think this would be a good way for kids to practice at home.

KWL Worksheets

I love using KWL worksheets with my students because they allow students to reflect on their own learning. They can see the progression of their own knowledge which is a great way to involve students in the learning process.

SMS Generator

This is definitely an activity that would be fun for students. It would be a good tool to practice informal English. You could give them scenarios like you need to ask your sister to borrow her dress, or mom needs you to get something from the store.

Publishing
https://www.lulujr.com/

I love doing this with students! It makes them feel like the work they do is important and meaningful. Last year in a 2nd grade class I worked in, we taught the kids all about the steps of the publishing process and made sure they had published work to show their parents at conferences. They absolutely loved it and engaged them more deeply.

Voice Chat
Voice chat would be a fun way to give students modern pen pals. They would be matched with kids from an English speaking country and practice hearing and speaking English with people closer to age and interest with them.

Comments

  1. I love the SMS tool, but never would have thought to use it to teach informal English. I think that's an interesting solution for the question on the voice thread about whether or not we should teach students text language.
